GIANT PINK PLANET!!
Using infrared data from the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii, an international team of astronomers has imaged a giant planet around the bright star GJ 504. Several times the mass of the Jupiter and similar in size, the new world, dubbed GJ 504b, is the lowest- mass planet ever detected around a star like Sun using direct imaging techniques...
Glowing a dark magenta, the newly discovered exoplanet GJ 504b. |
.......................AMAZING!!!!!!........................
- MERCURY is the fastest planet. Mercury zooms around the Sun in just 88 days, at an incredible 173,000kph. That makes it faster than any space rocket ever invented.
- OLYMPUS MONS situated in Mars is the largest volcano in Solar System which is about 600km across and towers over 25 km high.
- You could fit two EARTHS inside THE GREAT READ SPOT, which is about 40,000 km across.
- GANYMEDE is the largest moon in the SOLAR SYSTEM.
- CALLISTO is the most cratered world in the SOLAR SYSTEM.
- Summer at South Pole of URANUS lasts for 42 years.
- TRITON is one of the coldest place ever recorded!!! The temperature is -236 degrees Celsius.
- PLUTO is smaller than a country. At 2,360 km across, it is smaller than US or RUSSIA.The first living creature in space was a Russian dog, called Laika. She made a 7 day journey in the space capsule SPUNTIK 2 in November 1957.
- NEUTRON STARS are super-heavy!!! They may be 20 km across, but they weigh 50 times more than planet EARTH!!!
How long is a day on each planet? How long is a year??
A day is the time it takes a planet to rotate once. Earth takes 24 hours. Since each planets rotates at different speed, the length of the day differs. A year is the time a planet takes to rotate around the sun in Solar System. Earth takes 365 days to revolve around the Sun. Each planets revolve around the sun at different speeds.
Here is the time taken by each planet to rotate and revolve. The time is given in Earth days, Earth years and Earth hours.
PLANET ROTATION REVOLUTION AROUND THE SUN
(in hours/days) (in days/years)
- Mercury 59 days 88 days
- Venus 243 days 225 days
- Earth 24 hours 365 days
- Mars 26 hours 687 days
- Jupiter 10 hours 12 years
- Saturn 10 hours 30 years
- Uranus 17 hours 84 years
- Neptune 18 hours 165 years
